We all know that creating content can be hard working.

This week, we looked at three myths and mistakes that can hold writers back — and how to move forward again.
On Monday, Stefanie Flaxman uncovered a common content error that’s led to the mass of forgettable filler we’re all bumping into today. She explains how to take a bulldozer to the weak and the generic, and find the focus that will let you create the right content for the right people.
On Tuesday, Loryn Thompson confronted one of the great myths of the writing life:
“If I had more time to write, my writing would be 100 times better.”
(And yes, I fervently buy into this myth myself a lot of the time.)
Loryn’s post encourages us to get out and live, and treat our busyness, chaos, and even stress as fodder for better work. Butt-in-chair time is important, but it’s not the only element that makes for strong writing.
And on Wednesday, I addressed a third myth, sometimes called the Field of Dreams delusion — that if we just build enough wonderful content, the audience will come.
That would be fabulous, but … it doesn’t work. It never did, at least not with any reliability.
Once you’ve crafted your relevant, high-quality content, you still need to promote it. I have some thoughts on what works today, and a few techniques that will benefit you for a long time to come.

What is traditional marketing?
Traditional marketing like content marketing refers to conventional marketing methods and practices that were commonly used before the rise of digital and online marketing.
It involves the use of various offline channels and tactics to promote products or services and reach a target audience. Traditional marketing strategies rely on physical materials and media outlets to deliver marketing messages.
Here are some examples of traditional marketing strategy:
- Print Advertising: This includes advertisements placed in newspapers, magazines, brochures, flyers, and direct mail campaigns.
- Broadcast Advertising: Television and radio commercials are classic examples of traditional marketing. Advertisements are aired during specific timeslots to reach a wide audience.
- Outdoor Advertising: Billboards, banners, posters, and signage placed in public spaces or along roads are used to capture attention and generate brand awareness.
- Telemarketing: Making phone calls to potential customers to promote products or services, gather information, or conduct market research.
- Direct Sales: Engaging in face-to-face interactions with customers, such as door-to-door sales or setting up booths at trade shows or exhibitions.
- Public Relations (PR): Utilizing press releases, media relations, events, and sponsorships to create a positive image for a company or brand.
- Print Media Coverage: Seeking coverage in newspapers or magazines through news articles, editorials, or advertorials.
- Word-of-Mouth Marketing: Encouraging customers to spread positive recommendations and referrals to their family, friends, and colleagues.
Traditional marketing methods are often characterized by their offline nature, reliance on physical materials, and their one-way communication approach.
However, it’s worth noting that with the advent of digital marketing, many traditional marketing techniques have evolved and integrated digital components to leverage the advantages of both worlds.
